The Tuareg call these jewelry « teneghelt » which alludes to the production process with lost wax in an earthen mold.
The interpretations of this jewelry are varied. It could represent the four cardinal points or the « Southern Cross » constellation, the cross on the camel’s saddles or a love message ; love is pronounced T(o)R(a) in Tamacheck, illustrated by the symbols « O » and « + ».
Maybe it could even be representing all these symbols at once…!
Customers' opinion
